Our COVID-19 Solutions

Enabling African Women-led Businesses Thrive Post-COVID

ImpactHER's recent survey on the impact of COVID-19 on African female-owned businesses, in which over 1,300 small and medium-sized women business owners from 30 African countries responded reveals that women do not only require short-term financing for business operations, but also technical assistance such as technological support, financial planning, business strategies, and business mentorship to help their businesses post pandemic.

To mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 on the female-led SMEs (as evidenced in the survey results), we began implementing the following programs.

  • Resiliency Trainings:

ImpactHER pivoted its training and provided over 10,000 African female-led businesses with tools to help them adjust their business model to respond to the need that COVID-19 presented while also providing them with the tools to position their businesses for success and relevance in the post COVID-19 era. As a result, the training and tools provided, many attendees were able to pivot their businesses during the last four (4) months.

  • Expert Match Program:

ImpactHER began a new initiative referred to as "Expert Match Program" to connect experts in consulting, finance, marketing, and technology sectors with scores of women entrepreneurs in Africa to share their expertise to help them cope with the business challenges resulting from the COVID-19 crisis.  As a part of this initiative, we have been providing:

Technology Transformation Intervention:

We helped, on a pro-bono basis, transform non-technologically enabled businesses to technologically businesses as we believe technology will play a critical role in the post COVID-19 world. We have also provided free business websites to help women-led businesses adapt in a post-COVID world.

Resilience Building Intervention:

We have provided free technical support to the women in the following areas - marketing strategy consultations, one-on-one business development consultations and execution-ready plans, one-on-one business financial planning consultations and execution-ready plans, weekly practical business management training and free mentoring services.

  • COVID-19 Advocacy:

Based on the findings from the survey we conducted, ImpactHER sent advocacy letters to 30 African Presidents (the 30 countries represent the countries of the entrepreneurs that responded to the survey) proposing policies that would create an enabling ecosystem for women-led businesses in Africa. We have received favorable and encouraging response letters from some African Presidents such as His Excellency, President Nana Akufo-Addo (Ghana), His Excellency, President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré (Burkina Faso), His Excellency, President, Hage Gottfried Geingob (Namibia) and His Excellency, President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi (Mozambique).
